Crowdfund a quest to put a TARDIS in orbit and more

Ever wondered what it would be like if the crew aboard the ISS saw a TARDIS floating by the window? So does the team behind one current crowdfunding project. Also on the crowdfunding block are a supernatural courtroom drama, a prop space gun kit, a rain shelter that doubles as a rain collector, and an unusual photo series.

The Werewolf of New York: A Supernatural Law Book

If you haven’t read Batton Lash‘s comic Supernatural Law, go check it out right now. Seriously. There is no case too strange for the offices of Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre. Their clients are the things that go bump in the night (and occasionally bump up against the law). In this volume, our intrepid attorneys deal with a shapeshifter advocacy group, a nun who runs a Halfway House of Horror for monsters who want to get clean, and, as the title suggests, a werewolf client with a habit of stalking the streets. For a $25 pledge, you’ll receive a copy of the book as well as a bookmark and a mention in the book.

We’re putting a TARDIS into orbit – Really!

TARDIS Mk VI (Photo credit: Rooners Toy Photography)

We’ve seen tons of videos of objects being hoisted into the stratosphere by weather balloons for some snazzy pictures, but that’s not what the team behind this project is planning. Instead, their replica TARDIS will be the payload for a rocket launching into a Low Earth Orbit. Their TARDIS satellite has a solar rechargeable camera attached, with a control system that will keep the camera pointed toward Earth. So they should get some nice shots once the TARDIS is in orbit. They’ll be paying an aerospace company to do the actual launching. For a $15 pledge, your name will be entered into the TARDIS’ hard drive, and it will also appear on the project website and in a documentary about the project. [via GeekTyrant]

The Prop Space Gun Project

Whether you’re a costumer, a toy collector, someone in need of a prop, or just someone who likes to fiddle with model kits, consider propmaker Bill Doran‘s DIY space gun kit. He’s created an unpainted, modular prop gun kit that can be assembled and modified in any number of ways. The kit itself is available for a $125 pledge, and he has artwork available at lower levels.

Kammok Glider: Rain Tarp & Weather Relief Shelter Redefined

Outdoor equipment maker Kammok is developing a shelter that could not only keep you dry, but also keep you hydrated. The Glider is designed to be suspended above the ground, and the rain gutters at the base of the glider catch water as it pours down the shelter. The reflective surface is also designed to keep you cool in sunny weather. For a $175 pledge, you can get the Glider system, and for a $225 pledge, you can pick up the Glider system along with a Dragonfly hammock insect net. [via Inhabitat]

The Xplorer Series

Photographer Brian Braun needs a silver space suit. Why? So that he can launch his Xplorer photo series, taking photos of himself as a retro astronaut all across America. For Braun, this is a deeply personal project, one that he has been putting off for too long. For a $10 pledge, you’ll receive a signed mini Polaroid of the Xplorer while he’s on the road.
