Deadline report that the studio are confident that Man of Steel will perform well at the box office and won’t be another Green Lantern for them.
Goyer returns as part of his 3-picture deal with Warner Bros., one of which includes a Justice League movie with Superman, though Christopher Nolan’s involvement in the sequel is uncertain. Nolan was the producer and co-writer on Man of Steel but whether he has any interest to come back and do another Superman movie is so far unannounced.
Also unannounced is Warner Bros’ intention to make a Justice League movie. The buzz has been that if Man of Steel performed well then a Justice League movie would be green-lit, so maybe we’ll get this news after Man of Steel’s opening weekend? Hopefully when Warner Bros. see the support a DC superhero has at the box office they’ll be encouraged to commission more DC superhero movies (Wonder Woman in 2015? Flash in 2016?).
Fans are already speculating on the villain Superman will face in the next movie – Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Brainiac, Metallo, Bizarro, Darkseid? – but so far no news on the villain for Man of Steel 2.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Michael Shannon as Zod, Antje Traue as Faora and Christopher Meloni as Col. Hardy.
